December 12th marked the final round of the Grand Final 9mm Pistol Shooting Competition 2009, organized by the Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Thani, Chairman of Sharjah Civil Aviation, Chairman of Air Arabia and Chairman of the Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club.
25 qualifiers, five of whom were female, from the 9th and 10th of December qualifying rounds proceeded on to the final round yesterday. HE Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Thani Managing Director of Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club presented the top three winners with the trophies and cash prizes. Also present were General Manager Joseph Estephan, Baiju Noorudeen Shooting Manager and Ziad Al Sharabi, Sales & Marketing Manager.
The winners received trophies, medals and generous cash prizes starting at 30,000Dhs for first place, 15,000Dhs for second place and 10,000Dhs for third place were Humaid Abdullah in first place with 155 points, reigning champion Maher Ragheb in second place with 153 points and Khalid Gharib in third place with 152 points.

As a special gesture a contestant by the name of Khamis Obaid who happened to be a special needs contestant was also given a medal and trophy for his participation. Never having participated in a shooting competition before or come to the Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club (SGSC) shooting range decided to join. A special session was created for him where the referee explained the rules on paper and tapped him on the shoulder, instead of using the whistle, when he had to start and again when the time was up. SGSC proved that the sport is for everyone and showed support to those of special needs.

The competition comprised of 6 shots, on a distance of 15 meters single handed with a duration of 20 seconds, 6 shots, on a distance of 20 meters kneeing with a duration of 20 seconds and 6 shots, on a distance of 25 meters either single or double handed with a duration of 30 seconds.
Joseph Estephan thanked the sponsors SASCO as partner and ADCOM for their valued support of the 9mm Pistol Shooting Competition 2009 series.
Baiju Noorudeen also thanked all the participants and announced that in 2010 there will be a special competition for ladies only. “The ladies wanted to have their own competition and we are announcing today that in 2010 we will have a ladies only competition” he said.
