TOP FOUR TEAMS STAND FIRM IN SNTTA AND WWG LEAGUES…
The final round of group fixtures in the SAIF – Zone Golf Society League’s Worldwide Golf and SNTTA Leagues meant all was to play for, but in each league the two societies at the top of each league following the 4th round managed to retain their positions. The four teams who have qualified to the quarter final stages are Dubai Divots, Dubal, Dubai ExPutts 1 and MasSin 2.
It was very tight at the top of the Worldwide Golf League. Two wins for Dubai Divots against Filipino Golfers Society meant they top the league with 21 points. One win each for Dubal and MasSin 1 meant that the former finished second with 19 points. Consequently, reigning champions MasSin 1 just missed out on a qualifying spot with 15 points. Despite not qualifying, it was a great day for The ‘Ackerdemicals with two wins against DIGS and a hole in one on the 131 yard 3rd hole for captain, Phil Corcos.
Dubai ExPutts 1 finished comfortably on top in the SNTTA league on 25 points, thanks to two wins against EPC Hole Diggers. A win and a draw for MasSin 2 against KEGS 2 was enough to get MasSin 2 through to the quarter finals with 19 points. So at least one of the reigning teams goes through to have a chance of retaining the Cup! Two wins for Dubai ExPutts 2 meant they left FIGME on the bottom spot with 7 points.

Great weeks for Darjeeling and Motts B leave them in top spots after penultimate round!
An interesting week in the SAIF-Zone Golf Society League meant it was all change in the league tables again. In the SAIF Zone league, on a roll from last month, the Lebanese Golf Society leapfrogged to tied second with 2 wins against S.L.A.G.S. These losses saw S.L.A.G.S. knocked off the top spot but 2 wins in the final round could still see them qualify. The Sultans of Swing are now bottom of the league having suffered two losses to Darjeeling, who now jump to the top of this league. An impressive 7&5 win by Chris Dommett and Nick Harvey helped secure the top spot.
KEGS 1 and Gulf Rock each won one of their matches. Mel Stewart’s birthday was made even more sweet by winning his match with Lars Liden 6&5.
It was an exciting week in the BMW league as Mott Macdonald A faced Mott MacDonald B. The Bs showed no mercy with 2 win against their colleagues! It remained fairly even in the other matches with Etihad wining one and losing one against the Nepalese Golf Society and TOILers winning one and drawing one against Sharjah Golfing Buddies. This saw SGB just pipped at the top spot by Mott MacDonald B.

NEW NAME BUT NO NEW LEADER IN SNTTA LEAGUE…
The third round of fixtures in the SAIF-Zone Golf Society League supported by BMW, SNTTA and Worldwide Golf saw two white-washes and one tie in both leagues for the second time.
Last year’s runners up, Dubai ExPutts 1 remain top of the newly named SNTTA league (nee. SGSG league!). They won both of their matches against FIGME. Sadly at the other end of the table is Dubai ExPutts 2, who are yet to score after losing both matches to MasSin 2. Emirates Pilots Club remain second in the league after winning one match and losing another to KEGS 2.
In the Worldwide Golf League it was good news for The ‘Ackerdemicals as they scored their first points with two wins against MasSin 1. Dubai Divots jump to top of the league after winning both of their matches against DIGS. Dubal join Dubai Divots at the top spot having won one match and lost the other against Filipino Golfers Society. It really is all to play for in this league with two teams on 12 points, two on 9 and two closely behind on 6.

EVENING OUT IN WWG & SGSC LEAGUES…
The second round of fixtures in the SAIF-Zone Golf Society League supported by BMW and Worldwide Golf saw two white-washes and one tie in both leagues.
Despite their unbeaten start, Emirates Pilots hit a little turbulence at the top of the Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club league. They won one match and lost one match against a very determined Filipino Golfers Society team. Last season’s finalists met again and Dubai ExPutts 1 made it their turn to take the glory with two wins against MasSin 2. That means Dubai ExPutts 1 have pipped Emirates Pilots to the top spot in the SGSC League by just one point. Dubai ExPutts 2 did not fare so well, with two losses to KEGS 2.
In the Worldwide Golf League Arnel Valencia (14) and Jimmy Camero (15) produced the win of the day, beating The ‘Ackerdemicals 8up. A loss in the second match meant that The ‘Ackerdemicals are yet to score any points on the table. After two wins in the first round, Dubai Divots suffered two losses in the second round at the hands of Dubal. The final game was tied with one win and one loss for each of MasSin 1 and DIGS. The second match came down to the wire at the 18th green with Ramli Sulaiman (5) holing a “heavily breaking” par putt to win 1 up despite having a dormy 3 up lead at the 16th.

ROUND 2 OF SAIF - ZONE AND BMW LEAGUES SEE STRONG MOVES
The 2nd round of fixtures in the SAIF – Zone BMW saw strong moves from Mott MacDonald B, Etihad Golf Society, SGB and Darjeeling as all tree team reaped a 6 point whitewash in a thrilling afternoons golf.
From the four teams achieving 100% records on the day the stand out performance without doubt came from Hisham Yusof (8) who, playing on his own due to a last minute cancellation, managed to beat the Mott MacDonald B pairing of Adrian Adams (9) and Terri Stewart (18) 3 & 1. The highlight of his virtuoso performance was an eagle 3, as a result of a holed sandwedge from 80 yards on the par 5 15th hole. His net albatross moved him into a 2 whole lead with just 3 holes to play. A lead he would successfully maintain.
The days result mean the Sultans of Swing and Darjeeling occupy the 2 top slots in the SAIF – Zone League with the KEGS 1 and SLAGS hot on their heels in tied third.
Sharjah Golfing Buddies and Mott MacDonald B are in pole position to qualify for the knock out phases come February with Etihad Golf Society sat ready to pounce on any slip ups in third.
The next SAIF – Zone and BMW league matches are scheduled earlier than normal on November 26th to avoid the otherwise inevitable Christmas log jam.

PILOTS FLYING HIGH, WHILST IT’S BACK TO SCHOOL FOR OTHERS…
The second round of opening fixtures in the SAIF-Zone Golf Society League supported by BMW and Worldwide Golf saw Emirates Pilots flying solo at the top of the Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club league thanks to two very convincing wins against Dubai ExPutts 2. While reigning champions MasSin 1 are tied with Dubai Divots at the top of the World Wide Golf League.
Following on from last season’s success, The MasSin Golf Society decided to produce two teams this season. In the SGSC League MasSin 2 did not fair quite so well, but are adequately placed with one win and one loss against Filipino Golfers in the Middle East. Last season’s runners up, Dubai Ex Putts 1, got off to a good start with captain Phil Sharpe (11) and James Burlumi(12) beating KEGS 2, 4&3. A tie in the second match gained the KEGS 2 a point and saved them from the bottom spot.
In the Worldwide Golf League MasSin 1 narrowly won both matches 1up against the Filipino Golfers Society. It was an even affair between dubal and Dubai Irish Golf Society with one win each in their 2 matches. New boys, The ‘ackerdemicals, were taught a lesson or two by The Dubai Divots with two very convincing 7up wins. As a result The ‘ackerdemicals and Filipino Golfers Society lie tied bottom of the 6 team league with 0 points but are by no means out of contention for one of the 2 top qualifying spaces.

Their second match saw Gulf Rock’s William Liden (10) and Barry Nefdt (12) produce the most comprehensive victory of the afternoon – 7&6.
In the BMW league Sharjah Golfing Buddies won one game and tied one with Etihad Golf Society. The final match saw the same result with Mott Macdonald B pipping the other tournament rookies, the Nepalese Golf Society. SAIF ZONE SOCIETY LEAGUE GOES TO THE WIRE
The penultimate round of fixtures in the SAIF – Zone Golf Society Leagues Worldwide Golf and SNTTA Leagues once again proved exciting affairs as, poised going into the final round of league matches (scheduled for February 18th), 8 from the 12 participating societies can still progress to the quarterfinal knock out phases which start in March..
Although Dubai ExPutts 1 seem in control of the SNTTA league on 19 points they play 4th placed EPC Hole Diggers, who, if achieving a 6 – 0 whitewash still stand a chance of sneaking into the second qualifying slot. KEGS 2, in 3rd place, have the easiest fixture on paper, playing bottom of the league Dubai ExPutts 2, but you can rest assured the KEGS will have to fight for every point against the league leaders compadrais as they try to ensure as easy as possible a final leg for the ExPutts 1. Massin 2 who currently sit in second place play second bottom FIGME. Pundits expect MasSin 2, who are defending champions, to progress safely to the quarter finals, however there are a number of familiar faces within the two societies and MasSin will not turn up expecting an easy ride.
The Worldwide Golf League is event tighter with only 4 points separating 1st and 4th place. The Ackerdemicals and DIGS prop up the table. Neither can qualify and they play each in the final fixture meaning only a battle to avoid finishing bottom. This means the top 4 face an intriguing head to head battle to secure the all important top 2 spot. Interestingly enough any team from the top 4 who achieve an 6 – 0 whitewash is certain of qualification. Dubal (16 points) and Dubai Divots (15 points) hold the upper hand should the fixtures be tight as Massin 1 and the Filipino Golf Society sit third and fourth respectively on 12 points.
