Conares & BMW Golf Leagues teams head to the Playoffs

Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club were once again pleased to welcome back a strong contingent of golf society’s teams all vying to become the 2017-2018 Conares Golf Society League Champions.

Round five in the Conares League saw the two League leaders go head to head in a bit to top the table going into the playoffs. In two very close matches the Kegs & the Rising Etihad Golfers had fielded their strongest teams in order to collect the points, after a goliath battle in both matches the two teams had to divide the points equally following a win & a lost for each team. The additional points takes Rising Etihad to a total of 18 League points which they will take forward into the Playoff round. Leaving The Kegs trailing by the three points. As well as the two teams at the top going head to head the fixture also saw the two bottom teams square up in the final round to determine who would progress to the Playoff. At the start of the day Team Asia & the Gods were on equal points, both had collected six points from their previous fixtures. Following two stela performances from the Team Asia players they claimed all six points from the fixture, advancing them onto 12 League points & moving them into third into the Conares League. The results saw the GODS take a fall grace, crashing out of the 2017-18 Conares Society League. A result which no one would have predicted at the start of the season following successful campaigns from the GODS in previous seasons.

Round five in the BMW League saw the League leaders Happy Hookers sitting on the sidelines as they had a rest week & had completed all their league matches for the 2017-18 season. Trailing the Happy Hookers by only two points were the GTi Golf Society who faced up to FIGME to determine the top spot in the league. Following two exceptionally competitive matches the two teams had to settle for three points each from the fixture. The additional points moved GTi above the Happy Hookers by a single point. FIGME’s additional points confirmed their place in the playoff but wasn’t enough to move them up the League table & off the fourth place spot as the Angry Birdies took all six points from the British Dad’s. Cementing the Angry Birdies third place in the League, only a single point from the Happy Hookers in second place. Following a disappointing debut season in the Conares Golf Society for the British Dad’s the questions that looms for the team is; can they regroup, develop & come back with a stronger performance in next seasons Conares Golf Society League?

As well as the well-established Match points up for grabs a new 2017-18 season addition for the GSL are day’s prizes. Enabling other registered GSL teams to sign up & play alongside the GSL match fixtures for first & second place in a Betterball Stableford. In the fifth fixture Rene Samiento & Rolly Chang from FIGME topped the field of 17 pairs to win the Day’s prizes on a score of 43 Stableford points, winning a 300 AED pro shop voucher each for their efforts. Second place was won on a score of 42 was Arnel Valencia & Romel Camara, from Team Asia giving them both a 200 AED Pro shop voucher.

The Next round of the GSL will be hosted at SGSC on the 24 th February 2018 & will see the fifth round matches from the SGSC & WWG Leagues. There will also be the day’s prizes up for grabs for the teams on a rest week & the Conares & BMW Leagues to get involved in. The 2017/18 Season looks to be one of the most competitive yet.
