2012-02-15 06:15:55

Sana Tufail continued her meteoric rise to the undisputed summit of UAE golf claiming the 4th Dufy Ladies Open Golf Championship at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club last weekend.
The 15 year old Briton from the Abu Dhabi Golf Club romped home with a course record 74 (+2),beating nearest challenger Kavita Semhi (EGC) by 2 shots. Tufail, who was third in 2010 and winner in 2011 smashed the old course record of 77, ironically held by runner up Semhi, to take her 5th from the 6 Ladies Order of Merit Qualifying rounds held so far this season.
Third and 4th places in the gross stroke play event went to Anastasia Bakal (EGF) and Sharon Hall (YL). Also winning divisional prizes were Julia Al Hemoud (EGF), Aashka Desai (DCGYC), Michelle Sandford (AAESGC) and home golfer Young Park.
Gracious and modest as ever at the presentation Tufail thanked the host venue Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club for running such a fine event, all the other female competitors, event sponsors Dufy and most notably World Number 4 Martin Kaymer who has given her some useful tips on the range at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championships only the week before.
SGSC Head Golf Professional Ben Derbyshire reiterated Tufail’s comment and added how bright the future of ladies golf looked considering only 3 of the ladies collecting the 8 prizes were over 20.
