Michael Harradine successfully defended his SAIF Zone Men’s Open Golf Championship crown at the weekend after rounds of 71 and 73 resulted in a winning gross 36 hole total of 144. The 28 year old Swiss held off pre tournament favorite and Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa Stablemate Yassin Ali with whom he was paired in the final round. Both recorded 1 under par opening rounds but a double bogey 6 by Ali on the 2nd hole gave Harradine a 3 shot lead, the upper hand and ultimately the title as Ali finished 3 shots adrift on 147.
Ricky Dominguez a member at the host club Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club, was tied for the lead after the first round couldn’t maintain his form as he returned a second round 78 (149) allowing Dubai Creek member John Fellingham to sneak ahead of him by virtue of rounds of 73 and 75 (148). Tying Dominguez on 149 were SGSC Golf Professional Steve Chambers and Jumierah Golf Estates Member Craig Forrest.
At the presentation Harradine expressed his delight at retaining his title. “I love the course and the event and the win also boosts my standing on the EGF Order of Merit. It’s been a great weekend. The standard of the field was fantastic, the course was superb and the tournament organization was as good as anything I’ve had the pleasure to play in. On behalf of all the players can I thank event sponsors Sharjah Airport International Free Zone and Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club”.
Other prizes went to Mohammed Idris (SGSC) who won the 36 hole net tile, beating Sidney D’Souza (DCGYC) and Amiya Ranjan (EGF) into second and third place respectively. Ramli Sulaiman (EGF) and Rohnan Hall (ADGC) also picked up daily net prizes.
